Thanks---- we produce the wool that you may knit with. The best wool being from a sheep type---Merino--- can also get this with possum incorporated into it which makes it a lot more warmer--possum fibre being hollow and there fore a great insulator. Many thanks for your welcome! Will post photos when i get a chance.
Trevor, you got me all curious about merino/possum yarn. Not easy to find in the states. I found one site called HandKnits that sells a brand call Supreme Possum Merino and surprisingly it's not horribly pricey . I guess I expected vicuna or qiviut prices but it waspretty much the price of a good merino. I'm going to vist my LYS and see if they might be interested in carrying.
http://www.thewoolcompany.co.nz/------ try this website--- this shop/company specialises in Merino/possum wool and ship all over the world. If you look at their catalogue you will see that as well as knitted products they sell the merino possum wool. Not sure how you match your gauge of wool to your patterns but I am sure you would sort it!!!! I have used this company and have found them very reliable and great to do business with. The needles that they offer are great too----- no sticky or hard to move yarn on needles. And I do not have shares in this company---!!!!! The prices are in NZ$$ so you americans will be getting a bargain!!
We have just had a volcano that has been dormant for over a hundred years erupt so have the ash and fumes around at the moment---- will be bad for people who suffer form respiratory conditions.
Another company that carries possum/merino is Zealana out of Colorado. We saw some of their products at the first Rocky Mountain Knitting Retreat. Very nice yarns and fairly reasonably priced.
Welcome Kiwi. As Joe said, this is a terrific group of men who enjoy helping others understand knitting. Make sure you post some photos of your works in progress or finished work.
