Help! I can't figure out these sweater directions

paulrdallas's picture

I hope someone can help me decipher these directions. Pattern is as follows:

Dec 1 st at front slope edge only on 4th and 11 foll 4th rows, then on 2 following 6th rows.

I start out with 48 stiches, perform the above, and end with 34 stiches.

Thanks is advance!

I was going to give the same

I was going to give the same simple explanation, but Joe beat me to it.

Basically, "Dec 1 st at front slope edge only on 4th and 11 foll 4th rows, then on 2 following 6th rows." means decrease one stitch at the front slope every 4th row until you've done 12 decreases, then do two more decreases six rows apart. So you've done 14 decreases altogether and therefore 34 stitches remaining is correct, as Joe says.

Hi Paul, I always write out

Hi Paul,

I always write out the pattern row by row so I can tick them off as I go. It's easiest way to work out what's going on, especially when on some rows, you're decreasing at both Edna and on others, decreasing at one end or the other.

Good luck!

David

Does your pattern tell you

Does your pattern tell you how many stitches you should have after the decrease section? The way I'm understanding the instructions, you are decreasing away 14 stitches and 34 remaining is correct. The decreases occur every 4th row until the last two, which are 6 rows apart.
