For what it’s worth, while at the library yesterday I saw "Knitting brioche : the essential guide to the brioche stitch" by Nancy Marchant. It’s an entire book (close to 250 pages) on that one stitch!

Here is a site that has a lot of tutorials on the Brioche stitch and many variations. It is a lovely, lofty, stitch technique that produces a very nice and thick fabric once you get the hand of it.
