Well, I'm willing to cut Abby some slack considering the time she wrote that, but I would add that there are plenty of feminine men who also know very well how to stick up for themselves. Istanbul's transsexuals come to mind. If you're going to walk around this city as a man in a miniskirt, you darn well better be able to defend yourself. And to think I had to "build up my courage" to knit on a ferry boat here... They might not be "masculine" but they certainly have cojones. :)
