Hi guys,
I'm having a hard time uderstanding the hood instruction below. Can anyone help?
At beg of next row, bind off 3 sts twice, 2 sts twice, 9 (9, 10, 10, 11, 11) sts twice - 17 (17, 20, 22, 22, 24) sts. Work even for 5 (5, 5 1/2, 5 1/2, 6, 6) in. [12.5 (12.5, 14, 14, 15, 15) cm] for top of hood. Bind off. Sew bound-off edges of hood to top.
Bind off 3 stitches twice, 2 stitches twice? I don't get it...

Millard has it correct. Bind
Millard has it correct. Bind of 3 sts at the beg of the next 2 rows and then 2 sts at the beg of the following two rows. The patterns can be quite confusing....... A big help for me was to google the exact wording associated in the pattern with knitting and the answers most often are there!
Sometimes I look for Errata
Sometimes I look for Errata for the pattern if it doesn't make sense. Was it from a book?
No it was from the lion brand
No it was from the lion brand site and while they did make corrections a few months back this was not something they corrected.
But while we're on the subject is it common for books to have errors in the patterns, i have a few of erika knights books and quite a few patterns have errors...
Thanks! That makes a lot more
Thanks!
That makes a lot more sense!
Sure! I remember that part
Sure! I remember that part confusing me too when I originally knit it. I'm actually about to start the child's version for my niece.
David, the wording isn't
David, the wording isn't correct. It should read:
At beg of next "6 rows", bind off 3 sts twice, 2 sts twice, 9 (9, 10, 10, 11, 11) sts twice - 17 (17, 20, 22, 22, 24) sts. Work even for 5 (5, 5 1/2, 5 1/2, 6, 6) in. [12.5 (12.5, 14, 14, 15, 15) cm] for top of hood. Bind off. Sew bound-off edges of hood to top.
So, in other words, you will bind off 3 sts on the first row and knit to end of row. On the wrong side you will BO 3 sts (purlwise), and purl to the end of the row. The next right side you will BO 2 sts then knit to the end of the row. Then, you will BO 2 sts (purlwise) and purl to the end of the row. Lastly, you will BO x sts (depending on your size) and knit to the end of the row, and BO x sts purlwise and purl to the end of the row. Continue to knit even for x inches before binding off on a right side row.
Does that make sense? Let me know if you have any questions or need any additional help.
