Great little piece on The Early Show about the psychological benefits of knitting. Thought you all might enjoy watching this. Please note - they even show men knitting!
Well...it's nice to know that science has finally caught up with what we already knew. [Unless you're in a tricky spot designing something and ready to have a nervous breakdown.] Thanks for sharing.
I guess we all knew this before, but now it's not a secret anymore. Good to know there is scientific proof this time.
It's a good way to start your day with knitting. Some people like coffee and the newspaper - stimulants and depressants are not good together! But knitting just grounds you, gets you in touch with your true self, and lets you face the day on an even keel. Sometimes I need another infusion mid-day, and at the end of the day. And within a couple of days, I also have something to show for it as well! It's all good.
I just read that it helps prevent Alzheimer's disease and other neurological disorders a few days ago. I definitely feel more healthy when I am knitting with some classical music or soft improvisational piano music playing in the background - as opposed to rotting away in front of the TV.
If I knit while watching TV or a video I consider it multitasking. ;-)
I've always found knitting soothing and mind expanding at the same time. I could definitely tell that my memory got better when I started working lace especially once I started using charts. It's become like reading music which is also good exercise for the brain.
