This is a piece of lace I'm working on. It is a design by Sharon Miller in 'Heirloom Knitting' and the yarn is handpainted merino laceweight by Margaret Stove, the New Zealand lace guru.

MMario, the needles are

MMario, the needles are 3.75mm and the yarn is a VERY fine 2 ply laceweight, almost approaching Shetland cobweb. I prefer using Zephyr in another of Sharon Miller's designs, and I've put aside 6 or 7 other projects to concentrate on these two. I'll post a photo of the Zephyr when I can take a decent one.

okay - I don't feel too

okay - I don't feel too clumsy now - I have used 4 mm needles on occasion. I tend to use either 5mm (for lace weight) or 6.5 mm (for fingering weight or heavier) and occasionally 9 mm needles for my lace projects.

I've done 1 (one) project on 3.25 mm needles and thought I was going to be knitting on the thing forever.

MMario - I don't live in the 21st Century - but I play a character who does.

Lars, thanks for your comments. Lace is not difficult, it just needs concentration and recounting the number of stitches often ;-)

Very pretty, Kerry.

I've got a newfound respect for lace knitters recently since I've started doing a little bit of it. All those yarn overs can smack your stitch count right off kilter if you're not careful. And I'm using a worsted(ish) weight yarn and size 9 needles. I can't imagine working with gossamer yarn like that.

Kenny, I think there is too

Kenny, I think there is too much mystique about knitting lace, but you do have to count stitches. I prefer the feel of fine needles in my hands, but I probably wouldn't use this yarn again, it is so fine. I'm also doing another lace scarf in Zephyr and finding it much easier to use. My partner uses Shetland cobweb for his lace shawls!

Nice - and you knit "proper lace" not the "moose lace" I tend to do!

What size needles? yarn? I keep drooling over Sharon's designs, but have far too many projects in my "to do" list as it is.
