So I decided I wanted to try toe-ups again, and with "real" sock yarn. A friend was coming from Germany, and I'd seen the Hundertwasser "Save the Seas" yarn from Opal. So I described it to her as a deep blue and brown colorway...she remembered "blue" and ended up bring me the "Blaue Mond" (Blue Moon) colorway. Quite different but I liked it. At first I wasn't sure I'd wear socks colored like this but it's amazing what you can get used to if you push yourself a bit! Mavi Ay means "Blue Moon" in Turkish.

The toe is a traditional Turkish toe used in the Balıkesir area. It starts with a Turkish cast-on (I actually use Judy's magic cast-on), and then proceeds with one increase on the right (or left) end of the front and back row on each round. This gives it a "twist" and diagonal ridge (visible on the left sock - I did the twist in opposite directions for the left and right sock) and brings the original cast-on perpendicular to its original position.
