Personal Grooming and Travel

So, we're getting ready to hit the road early tomorrow morning to see the Grand Canyon, and some other national parks along the way such as Zion and Grand Staircase. In the flurry, I realized I should probably post the latest finished project, which means I need pictures. Luck was with me this morning as we finally had a beautiful sunny morning that gave me good light as I tried to rush about getting said pictures. As you can see from my pictures, maybe I shouldn't rush. We can just state right here, that I am NOT a photographer. But through it all, I hope the beauty of the Litla Dimun Shawl I was working shows through. I've actually had it done for a couple days now and haven't started anything new. *Gasp, Say it isn't so! *

So, I got a couple what I felt were at least decent shots and were compiling them up and resizing when I noticed the head shots, though it is beautiful morning light, highlighted a little issue that maybe I've neglected the past week. So sorry guys for the sunlit nose hair, and I promise, I immediately rectified the situation.

On that note, I would like to point out the generally open and humorous nature of knitters. Have you ever been sitting in your knit night groups, maybe in a fairly public venue, and realized that you were discussing something that you had never really thought you would with others, much less in the local Starbucks? I can tell you I have, and as I perused Ravelry forums the other night and ran across the "Nice Rack" conversation, I was once more reminded of many conversations at our groups. Granted, I know that I am a fairly open honest person, and I've always said "If you want to talk crap about me, come sit with me because I can tell you the best stories about me." Really, I have no problems sharing the fact I've been de-wormed after tropical locale traveling and that I once got out of a speeding ticket because I was about to mess myself in front of the cop due to the stomach flu. But in general, mind you in general. I know plenty of up tight knitters that I think have been scared away from knitting groups due to such flamboyant conversation, we seem to be a fairly raucous bunch. I've even been shocked by people I thought I knew fairly well and were kind of on the quiet side piping in with comments or personal anecdotes that have had me rolling with laughter. The point of all this? That I think we're a pretty cool group, even if we forget to trim our nose hair, wipe well enough, or in general have other grooming failures. Because hey, it leads to great conversation.

Now, back to the actual work of knitting! I bought a skein of Berocco Comfort Sock yesterday in a nice manly gray that I plan on making me up a pair of socks while traveling. My partner is a driver. By which I mean he seems to enjoy driving more than I do so I let him. I tend to be a passenger seat napper though. I am so hard at work looking at scenery that I tend to fall asleep if I'm not doing anything, so I though socks would be a great small project to go with me. I'm excited that I get to use my new knit picks short sock needles! I haven't got to play with them yet so it was also an excuse to pull out the new toys. Hey, we all need new toys occasionally. And yes, I did say that to start some good knitting group side discussions.

Anyway gents and our few ladies, You all have a great week. I hope to catch up with you soon. There may be some from the road postings... We'll see.

Brady often mentions the conversations he and the ladies have at his Wednesday evening group. I have yet to join them but I should. What a hoot. The shawl is beautiful - you're amazingly prolific with your knitting! Finally... I'm am so jealous of your trip!!! I love southern Utah and of course the Grand Canyon is amazing and so much more than what you can experience by pictures or video alone. Hope you have a wonderful time!

When I first joined some

When I first joined some spinning/knitting groups which were populated only by women, I learned a great deal! There were topics and details that my mother never told me!! What an education!!

Knitting socks is perfect travelling projects, and work well to keep you awake when a passenger. However, careful that you don't turn TWO heels on the same sock! (not pointing any fingers here)

Unfortunately, yes, yes they are. And it seems as though the hair on top of my head is migrating to other venues such as my ears, nose and back. Yeah, that was some sex images I just gave you, huh?

As I may have shared with you...I always wanted to grow a beard. Finally, at 28 [or so] I did...the hair all migrated from the top of my head to do it, though. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

As I said Wednesday, that

As I said Wednesday, that shawl is nice and I'd even overlook the fact that it is so blue and green if you want to give it to me. [Kidding.] I didn't mind the nose hair so much - I don't look that close, as you may have guessed - but the no glasses threw me for a loop. Hope you both have a great trip to Grand Canyon and points between. Looking forward to seeing the socks and how the Berocco knits up. As to the topics at knitting group...Your open attitude and quirky humor is what makes me enjoy your company. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

You is having a cute nose, so don't worry about a little normal fuzz---I have used Berocco sock yarn and liked it --- do not know of Knit picks needles, but am always looking for some new/different knitting toys/tools.

The KnitPicks Harmony

The KnitPicks Harmony needles are quite good. Both the dpns and the circulars. I have 40" circulars in 2.25 mm and 3.0 mm for sock work and am enjoying them a lot. They won't replace my favorite dpns in those sizes but are nice to have for travel projects. Fairly reasonably priced as well. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
