I found this afghan in The knitting man(ual) : 20+ projects for guys and the people who knit for them by Kristin Spurkland. It's called Seaweed Throw. I've never made anything this large, so I decided it was time to dive in and get busy. It was fun to learn how to do a two-stitch cable without the extra cable needle. The picture doesn't really show how big it's going to be, but it measures about 46" x 53" when finished.
I am using Lion Brand Yarn, Wool-Ease Chunky (20% wool, 80% acrylic). I considered making it all wool, but thought about maintenance and decided to go with this blend so it can be thrown in the washer and dryer. I'm glad I waited to make this until I was practiced enough to recognize different stitches by sight. It sure makes a pattern easier to follow, as opposed to always having to refer to the pattern chart so often. Hopefully, it will be done for the first snowfall next winter. Of course, if the Chicago weather doesn't begin to behave itself, we may never get out of winter!
Have a HAPPY EASTER guys!
Mark

I'm a big fan of the wool
I'm a big fan of the wool ease, I find it knits up rather nicely. And like you pointed out, maintenance is a breeze. Keep up the good work.

I used some wool ease I had found on sale for less than$ 2.00 for a large panel cable afghan for my partners sister. Despite not really enjoying working with the yarn the finished product was lovely and easy for them to care for than just plain wool. It appears yours will be just as successful and beautiful. Good luck!
Great start, Mark! I love
