I know, it's bragging but I'm just so stoked
So, I finally finished the lace baby blanket last night and found an excuse to use these blocking wires I bought in December. I think it turned out well. I attached a photo of it so you can agree with me (Just a hint, the proper answer is, "Yes, it is quite lovely").
Now for the bragging. I was really wanting to hop on a new lace project last night. I know, I don't know what's wrong with me either, but I forced myself to pull out the socks that got put to the way side, they were only for me anyway, and finish the last 14 needed rows of 3x1 ribbing. Gawd do I hate ribbing. So, here's the real bragging bit, I managed to finish up to whole projects last night! I'm so stinking proud of myself today I could feel the lilt in my walk. I threw a pic of them on here too, sorry about the hairy legs guys. I promise the socks aren't that purple looking. Some light just makes them look like an old lady's rinsed hair.
Alas, that was the last of my stash I bought while home in Alaska last year. That means it's time for another trip home, right?

Well, when you decide to tackle lace, remember to give yourself some quiet time with no distractions as you sit down to it at first, and make sure you hold off on whatever your favorite alcoholic beverages are until your fingers know what you've thrown at them. At least, that's my secret.

great color and really beautiful blanket. The socks are looking good. I have yet to tackle a toes up pattern and I like to knit socks a lot. I really don't mind the ribbing part, tho lots pf people seem to regard it with distaste----if we all lived within 5 miles of each other, I would volunteer to do eveybodys ribbing!

Oh my - what a beautiful
Oh my - what a beautiful blanket!! It's so great! I'm working on using the same technique right now... knitting in the round and increasing at the four corners... however, I'm being very lazy and just knitting straight through, no fancy lacework like you done or anything. I just need to get through the project as quickly as possible. I changing colors every 8 rounds so it's at least interesting that way. Yours is amazing!! Congratulations!!

The blanket is perfect, you did an excellent job. You just go right ahead and brag, it is your right, none of us would want to take that away from you. Don't be to hard on the "blue rinse" set, at least they have hair lol (I am folicly challenged). Great socks, I have not done toe ups.

That baby blanket is really fabulous and is what I’d expect to see for a baby’s blanket. Socks are great too. I’d not be to concerned about a little gloating, I never am. What you do is an art. Others do it on canvas; we just do it with yarn and needles! (smile and wink). Sid

I am stepping up from scarves and hats to socks now and I just can't get my head wrapped around what to do with the heal and gussets. But, hey, at least I know what they are. :) What pattern did you use? Would you consider sharing it with me?

When I learned socks, they had me make felted slippers first to get the feel of how to do the heel and gussets in a larger size, instead of with (relatively) tiny sock yarn.

Those were my first toe up
Those were my first toe up socks. I've made several sets of top down for others but I decided to attack these for me. They are the "short row tow and heel basic toe up socks" from "socks from the toe up" book from wendy knits. I think I prefer the toe up and am going to learn how to do two at a time, that way I stall on the second one a bit less.
Once you've done heels, gussets and toes once and get the concept of how you are shaping the material as yo work, the world of knitting opens its book of secrets before you... I promise.

As for hairy legs, I daresay we prefer them. I do, anyway. In fact, I rejoice when I see socks modeled on hairy legs.
