the lace weight and composition of these yarns didn't take to spit join. they kept sliding and falling apart

If I have a 9 stitch steek

If I have a 9 stitch steek for a cardigan, I simply spit join the two colours together so that the join falls within those 9 stitches - sometimes it doesn't but it never is noticeable. Only 1 or 2 ends to darn in depending on the design.
