It's a gift for a woman who has been bringing me soup! Somehow I've lost the ability to swallow so she's been bringing me soup. The lack of swallowing is caused by central nervous system neuropathy which has been developed from complications of being a Type 1 diabetic for over 45 years.

I figure she's giving me sustenance - the least I can do is give her warmth!

Hi Jonathan,

You know it's really much easier to make a lace shawl than it looks. Just randomly throw in a few knit two togethers and some yarn overs and suddenly it's lace!

I cannot make two sleeves the same length, a neck hole that is big enough for a head without sliding down off the shoulders, two socks the same size, or a body of a sweater that is small enough for just one torso. But yet, "easy," "lace," and "quick" go together perfectly for me.

I guess to each his (or her) own!

I learned doing Debbie Macomber's "Alix's Prayer Shawl." I knew how to do yarn overs and knit two togethers. The rest was learning to read a chart and somehow that seemed very intuitive to me. And the rest...well going on sites like this and asking questions!

Knittinghelp.com has a lot of videos that show the various techniques too.
