Nice video. He seems like a cool european guy who enjoys knitting, drinking beer and doing other manly things. That looks like he is doing an afghan stitch pattern.

He is doing Tunisian knitting, or sometimes called Tunisian crochet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypi6XPvvPQo He says it is also called Russian crochet and something else... I've never heard those names before. Guess it depends where you are from!

It is a fun stitch to do, but you get a thicker fabric (and uses more yarn) which might be something you need sometimes. The helmet liner he had looked very thick and warm, and in Iceland, I would think you need such things. There are a variety of different stitches that can be done. Might be easier than knitting for some of us.
