I Got Felt Up(pers)!

TheKnittingMill's picture

Hey guys! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I just got back from Florida last night and had a very relaxing time at the beach with my sister, BIL and the kids. I didn't want to come back! I made my first pair of felted clogs--FINALLY. They came out well and were a cinch to make. The felting was a very cool process and a lot easier than I had expected! I worked on embellishing the purple pair while at the beach. A decent knitter I am, an embroiderer I am NOT! So, don't look to closely at the funkiness. I've included all of the details including the pattern for the Latvian braided rope on my Ravelry account here. If your aren't on Ravelry, let me know if you want the instructions and I'll be happy to email them to you! I'm now working on knitting a pair for myself. I will definitely be knitting some of these for holiday gifts!

Wow Mill, those are awesome!
I'm almost done my 2nd pair of the these. The first pair are just plain ole grey, but as slippers, they're wonderful. Then second pair is 2-tone, and I'm planning on doing some needle felting to dress them up. Your embellishments are a true inspiration :)

Mil, Love the embroidery!

Mil,
Love the embroidery! I'm pissed that I hadn't thought of it LOL! Anyway, you might want to look into ribbon embroidery also, that's what yours reminded me of right away. It's not "in fashion" right now but was about 12-13 years ago so supplies are harder to find but you can do really amazing flower etc. And for those who are not helping to break your dry spell, shame on them. I'm sure that there are several of us here who would thoroughly enjoy being on the giving end of felting you up. Now if some of us only had a body like you. Which reminds me...what happened to the pin up calendar idea of a couple years ago. I think we've found Mr. July!

Thanks so much Shawn! You

Thanks so much Shawn! You know, I was just talking to a friend on Rav yesterday about wanting to learn silk ribbon embroidery; it's so funny you mentioned it. Great minds think alike I guess (",)! I've been on call at the hospital all weekend, but next week I'm going to take a jaunt to the bookstore and see if I can find some good embroidery books.

I've worked REALLY hard at the gym this whole past year! Now you know what I do with all the pent up sexual frustration! LOL!

BTW...(for everybody) several guys have emailed me asking what the white thing is on my belly and I tried to come up with some cool story, but I haven't had sleep and I have to save whatever brain cells I have left for morning rounds. A few months ago I had a busted appendix. I probably started my ab workouts sooner than I should have post-op, and I developed a moderate abdominal hernia. So, a week before I left for the beach I had an outpatient procedure to repair the hernia and a plastics friend of mine cut out the old hypertrophic scar tissue and closed as to alleviate a scar as much as possible. So, there's the big mystery--it's just a dressing to keep out the sun and sand.

Thanks Michael! You really

Thanks Michael! You really should give them a try! I'm not too fond of many slippers made for men, so esthetically the pattern of the clogs appealed to me greatly. The pattern is VERY well written and I was able to knit one slipper in one evening--very instant gratification. The hardest part is waiting for them to dry! It took nearly 4 days for the orange ones to dry, but we've been having 90-100% humidity almost every day lately.

You are welcome...I haven't embroidered for a long time. I first started when I was six years old and my sister let me help out on some cross stitch quilt blocks. Then I discovered knitting and that was that... Like the new photo, BTW. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Thanks Mario! I tried to go with easy stitches since I'm new at it. I used a backstitch for the vines, french knots for the lavender, colonial knots for the red flowers, reversed lazy daisy stitches for the leaves, and a feathering stitch for the orange rose buds (they were definitely the most challenging). I recently saw a bouillon rose bud on the net that I'd love to try. There has to be a better way of doing leaves! I've seen some amazing ones that are embroidered to be 3D and only one end is actually attached to the fabric, but I have no idea how it's done.
