The last 2x2 rib I did had 2p

The last 2x2 rib I did had 2p at first of a dpn, after several rnds i noticed the 1st purl was not as tight, so always start with Knit, endd with either, but stat with knit

I have had it come out that

I have had it come out that purl was at the start of a needle but I usually "scoot" a stitch or two around so it doesn't. Not sure why but seems if I start a needle in purl I somehow end up with an odd, unexpected y/o (something good must have been on TV?) and you know how you get that funny slack tension at the cusp of the needles if there's any funny business at all...

That's odd. I'm knitting

That's odd. I'm knitting socks right now, which are in K2P1, and sometimes it happens that the purl is at the start of a needle, and it doesn't bother me a bit! In fact, it actually works out better that way for some reason. I tend to pull it a bit tighter at that junciton because of the way the stitches sit from needle end and needle start. Some will have the knit at the start. Sometimes I have the K2 borken up so one is on each needle.

The final word? It really matters not a wit what you start with. It's a stitch, damn it, and it still needs to be worked! With ML, it's even better, 'cause you only have the two needles! LOL And then, I will often move a couple stitches over, just for some fun, and let a K or a P be the beginning stitch. Or sometimes even a YO. It really doesn't matter one little bit! None.
(why can't I vote?)

I pretty much always start

I pretty much always start with KNIT, but I have to confess, I have no idea why. Probably because the idea of K2P2 or something is ingrained into us. Nobody says, "I was doing a simple P2K2 ribbing the other day."

Knit I do. To do otherwise

Knit I do. To do otherwise would be uncivilized.

Knit it. Knit it good. When

Knit it. Knit it good.

When a problem comes along
You must knit it.
When something’s going wrong
You must knit it.

Now knit it
Into shape.
It’s not too late
To knit it
Knit it good.

When a good time turns around
You must knit it.
You will never live it down
Unless you knit it.
No one gets away
Until they knit it.

I say knit it.
Knit it good.

I voted knit because it's

I voted knit because it's what I've always done. However, come to think of it I don't really think it would bother me to start with a purl. Interesting question.

Going forwards or

Going forwards or backwards?

I don't give a fig, knitting forwards, but hate having a knit stitch first when going backwards

This is why I like

This is why I like magic-loop. I can shift my stiches until I have a knit at the two changes. Worse than purls at the beginning of a needle is a YO at the end of one... for me.

I think more importantly is

I think more importantly is what's at the end...I usually have a purl stitch or two at the end so I can tell if I've dropped a stitch...
