converting an adult pattern for a child

knit_knot_eat's picture

So I found an adult pattern for a shrug that I like. It is a simple pattern and is "one size fits all". Well, one size fits all doesn't work on my 5 year old daughter is is 30 pounds soaking wet.
The pattern is basically a rectangle that is folded and then seamed for the arms.
All I would need to do is make a smaller rectangle. But I don't know how big/small to make it. Plus I need to keep the length and the width in the proper proportion.

Any ideas on how to figure this out?

Measure your daughters

Measure your daughters wingspan. Measure yours. reduce the pattern in the same proportion as your wingspan to hers. Or use height....which is approx the same.
