Gregor Cardigan Sweater by Mathew Gnagy

VillageKnittiot's picture

Finished my sweater. Did a few changes to the original pattern. Pattern and Pattern support were great. Although a simple "just shut up and knit it the way it's written" probably would've sufficed.

Yarn: Green Mountain Spinnery - Wool & Mohair
Needles: Size US6 and US8
Size: XXL

changed buttons to a zipper and moved inceases and decreases in 5 stitches from the edge for fully fashioned shaping.

Thanks Mathew for the help!

Although I really like the original version, the changes that you made really make it a standout! The zipper just makes it look so much more tailored. I can hardly wait to make this myself.

Very nice knitting. I really like the collar and how it works into the overall design. Is it knit as a strip with the ribbing picked up and knit onto it? -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Yes, the cabled part of the collar is knit end to end and then the ribbing is picked up and knit downwards. It makes a very warm collar, almost don't kneed a scarf. Although I have about 6 skeins of yarn left, I may make myself matching hat and/or gloves and scarf. We'll see how industrious I feel.

That cable pattern would be great for a matching cap, gloves [or mittens] and scarf. For a hat, just knit a strip to go around your head then pick up around one of the edges and knit up a crown. It's very traditional in Aran knitting to make them this way. Thanks for letting me knw how it all is done. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Yep, it's all mine! My New Year's resolution was that this was going to be the year of 'Selfish Knitting.' I'm going to try to only knit for myself, after several years of knitting for others. ( I doubt that will last much longer though.)

I was a little concerned, I have never installed a zipper before. I handbasted the bejeezus out of the zipper before running over it with my sewing machine.
