Hi Guys!

Hello fellow male knitters!

Just introducing myself. I'm John the Goatboy from Portland, Oregon. I must say it's wonderful to find a place in the cyberworld where we are not the minority! I've been knitting off and on since I was eight years old, and I added spinning to my skills in 2004.

I've been reading about the cool retreats throughout the US, and I'm happy to say that I'm signing up for the Fall Retreat at Dumas Bay Centre.

I'll post a picture of some Fair Isle I'm currently working on when there is a little more of it to show.

Happy knitting, and I'm looking forward to meeting some of you in person in the Fall.

Cheers,

Goatboy

Thank you for the warm

Thank you for the warm welcome Michael. My pictures of my projects will be few and far between, because I tend to be a slow knitter.

By the way, may I say how dapper and handsome you are in your photo.

Hi John...welcome and I'm

Hi John...welcome and I'm thrilled you'll get to have the opportunity of being with the men's knitting community both her at MWK and at the Fall retreat...I went last year and it was a wonderful experience...nothing better than a bunch of guy knitters/spinners/crocheters/weavers just hanging out.

I also spin and have found myself just as obsessed with spinning as knitting.

Hi there QueerJoe, and

Hi there QueerJoe, and thanks for the welcome. You may remember that I'm the fellow who offered to have you and Thaddeus come to Portland to get married, during Multnomah county's brief fling with same-sex marriage. I have read your blog for years, and I think we both came to spinning around the same time.

Will you be coming to the Fall Knitting Retreat? If not, I will have to make it to a Spring Retreat to finally meet you in person. Sorry I have to rush, as I'm supposed to be getting ready to work (bah, I'd much rather stay home to knit and spin!).

I just want to add that I really enjoy your blog, and appreciate that another queer smacks back at homophobia and the current conservative and wacko right fringe madness in this country of ours (yes, indeed it is our country too, damn it!)

Goaty bleats and kisses to you

John the GoatBoy

Thanks John...what great

Thanks John...what great encouragement.

I'm unsure about the Fall retreat this year. I haven't announced it publicly, but I just changed jobs, and while I will be doing the exact same type of work, I'm not sure what my schedule will look like and whether I'll be able to take the time off necessary to make it back to Dumas Bay.

On the one hand, I'm hoping that the event fills up so fast that Mike needs to maintain a waiting list...on the other hand, if last-minute scheduling permitted, I'd of course want there to be one spot left!

As I think I replied to you about the marriage...er...proposal(?)...I'm still holding out for when marriage between Thaddeus and I is recognized by the federal and state governments. I know it will happen one day.

Welcome to the site, John.

Welcome to the site, John. We are a grand bunch and I have never regretted the day I decided to join up. No more knitting in near isolation. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Thanks for the welcome,

Thanks for the welcome, Steve!

I am overwhelmed by the number of men on this site! I feel like a whole new world has been opened to me. I've been so accustomed to going to "Knit Nights" at LYSs where I would be lucky to see one or two "fellow" knitters, or knitting/spinning conferences where the men looked like endangered salmon swimming upstream to spawn and die. I am so excited that I have signed up for the West Coast's Fall Mens Knitting Retreat...I can't imagine what it will be like to be surrounded by male knitters, with nary a female in sight...it gives me goosebumps!

Bleats and hugs
