Red Hoodie
I've almost finished a Red Hoodie for my five year old (almost) grandson....but red is VERY hard to photograph! This is knitted with Cascade 220 superwash wool...and lurex thread. My grandson loves sparkly red!!!
Knitted in the round, I steeked the armscye...connected the shoulders, knitted the armscye ribbing and then blocked the whole sweater. When that was dry I sewed in the zipper. Just finished cutting and inserting fleece pockets in the front...now I'm picking up stitches and knitting ribbing to finish off the pockets. Almost done. His 5th birthday is the middle of the month.

First of all, I always LOVE your knitting....this project is just great.
As for photographing red, Franklin gave me the best tip, and it works on most digital cameras...
...most digital cameras have a "White Balance" setting (or WB on my camera)...the settings are usually pre-sets for "Sunny", "Shady", "Lamp Light", "Flourescent Light", etc. ...I just keep switching this setting until I get a picture that shows the truest color for my yarn.
I know those digital camera menu options are hard to navigate, but it's oftentimes worth it for this setting alone.

I always have trouble with reds...and use them a lot. I'm going to experiment with my camera. Hadn't thought of trying those various settings... Probably outside in daylight is a good start... The red hoodie is in the mail...hopefully I'll get better pics of my grandson wearing it, later...

It's AWESOME Bill! He's gonna love it! Kudos to you and your daughter for supporting his love for sparkly red! How did you reinforce your steeks on the superwash? I have plans for a cardigan and have a DK superwash merino wool I'd like to make use of, but I'd really like to knit it in the round and steek the front. Do you think a crocheted reinforcement would hold up, or should I machine stitch it?

I really feel safer with a
I really feel safer with a machine stitched steek...you could do a crochet line on top of it for looks, if you wish. Be careful of stretching, with machine stitch. I usually place tracing paper strips under and over the steek line...so the knitting won't stretch. The paper tears away easily.
..However...I ALWAYS sew zippers by hand. They're more flexible that way.

...and he's outgrown the pair of red glittered MaryJanes that he insisted his mother buy for him (when he was three)... when one of the boys said "Those are girl's shoes"...he replied "No, those are MY shoes!".
