Boxers, here we go! (warning: not the most delicate of posts)

The KAL pattern finally arrived just in time for me to realize I probably didn't have to buy that second skein. That's alright, who cares that it's in a colorway I normally would avoid? It really is a fun yarn, though, and if I have to make crazy socks later, so be it. At least in this case I won't feel tempted to knit it into a shawl. Thankfully, I think it will look great with a sock yarn that I already have in my stash. I thank Chris for daring me to do something a little out there. I like the stripes on the original, but y'know, I can't just make exactly what is prescribed. Chris kinda dared me to do something a little off the charts. No black and blue for me, boys. To see the colors, you have to check the picture.

The stash yarn is bright blue, and had declared that in avoidance of making me feel like a Smurf, it will not be knit into socks. For a similar sentiment, it will not be a shawl. It also turned out to be not the greatest yarn...not scratchy, but not luxurious, and rather splitty. Something I'm happy to use up, not something I'd bother to knit into socks. Just crappy enough to wear on my backside and still feel good about the overall project. My other option was Malabrigo Sock in the Lettuce colorway, but that idea felt in my mind like using a hundred dollar bill to wipe my butt...though Malabrigo feels darn better than any currency I've had the pleasure to wipe with. I'm currently swatching, and loving the look of the blue.

Can't wait to get the right gauge and move forward on these things!

Ok Ok!!!!! I am so sorry for ever making the statement about these shorts being itchy! I take it back and can't wait to see what these look like. I hope there is a picture to show the shorts on and you are the model! Can you ever forgive me?:(

Very cool colors. I'm feeling a bit like a Republican with the colors I've choosen - a tasteful Republican, if there is such a thing.

I can't wait to see these

I can't wait to see these when you come up to visit next month! Are you going to drive your new car up or are you still going to to take the train/bus?

Whoo hoo! I'm trying to

Whoo hoo! I'm trying to decide, still. That's a lot of valuable knitting time to give up if I drive, but then I can't see my sister on my way up if I ride the bus!

I think these colors could

I think these colors could be fun for the boxers - for the back panel I took the 2 colors I am using on mine and striped them - 2 rows color A, 2 rows color B -- you might want to do that with this yarn (even though it's the same color(s)) and that way it'll be striped AND crazy... might look good... if you're interested do a swatch to see what you think :)

Thanks! I was tossing

Thanks! I was tossing around the idea of doing my own striping, but on the side panels, like on the original shorts. I guess it won't hurt to do a little more swatching...harumph!

I may have to rethink my intentions to walk down the street in these shorts; they might blind the drivers.

the original shorts were

the original shorts were self striping sock yarn - knit in contrasting colors (the orange/red for the back panel, waist and trim, and the blue for the rest). Since the colors I had weren't working really well together (I had knit almost the entire back panel before deciding this) - I ripped out all that knitting and started over by knitting the 2 colors like I mentioned - it mixed the colors some and seemed to work... whatever you do it'll be gorgeous - just have fun with the project!!

To return to a previous

To return to a previous theme, the shorts knit with this yarn would be well suited for the Vatican Swiss Guards- though I'm not certain that they wear shorts, nor that they would accept shorts knit by...well, you know.

Well spotted, Al. As for

Well spotted, Al. As for the other, you may well be right. But then again...who knows? I, personally, have never gone out with a Swiss Guard. But that's not to say it's never happened.
