Here is a photo of a mitten that I am working on. It is a double knit, so the fabric is thick. Should be very warm. The yarn is Galway Heather. I am using a 4mm circular - knit flat.

I think wool of the Andes is a great yarn for felted items.....and when it was first brought out, I think 8 out of ten posts on the knitting lists I belonged to were about felted items.

Very good knitting, Paul. I had a cousin mention - somewhat abashed - that she lost a mitten of a pair I made for her several years ago. Luckily, I have the notes on it but not the yarn. So, I plan to make her a new set, possibly adding a third one for future mishaps. [Either that, or leave the "Keeper String" on them for real this time instead of as a joke.] edit: Maybe I should follow Lars's instructions and make them flip top. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

This makes me think of a

This makes me think of a long ago post that I read somewhere by Leigh Witchel (who I don't think is here...are you?). Anyway, he said that he knits lots of mittens during rehearsals etc so makes them all black with different colored thumbs. Then when he gifts them he just grabs 3 from his stash. They already don't "match" and if one is lost the third replacement doesn't need to "match" either. I thought this both ingenious and designer chic at the same time.
