We are a knitting family of sorts. Besides me, my wife and 2 of 3 kids are knitters (my 4-year-old isn't ready). Here is my 6-year-old son Ernest displaying a "potholder" he knitted all by himself (I sewed two pieces together for him to make it double thickness).

How on Earth do you hold
How on Earth do you hold their attention long enough? My nieces keep saying they want to learn but when it comes down to lessons, it is like herding Kittens On Crack!
I'm not the one who taught
I'm not the one who taught him and my daughter - my sister-in-law and niece did. My wife and I decided we should probably learn too so we could help if needed. So my niece (whom I now refer to as my "knitting muse") gave me a quick lesson, and there has been no turning back.
Now that is an interesting
Now that is an interesting twist...parents learning something new after being inspired by their children's interests. Either way, I think it is grand that you all knit. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
Wonderful! I regret not
Wonderful! I regret not teaching one of my nieces when she asked me...my self esteem was low enough that I thought it wouldn't be fair to do so. Now, however, I am known as the Knitting Guru --- but still trying to accept the compliment graciously. I see great knitting in Ernie's future. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
Where were you when I was

That's awesome...his
That's awesome...his expression is often how I feel when I've accomplished something new in my own knitting. What a great family he must be growing up in.

Great! And he looks so thrilled. Wonderful.
Way to go, Ernie! Ernest
Way to go, Ernie!
Ernest should join the "Men Who Knit" group!!!
I imagine he may just do
I imagine he may just do that some day, Bill. As a first grader, his reading and typing isn't quite strong enough yet for an online club. He may be way ahead of me on the computer in a few years, though - that's growing up in the 21st century!

You are a very lucky man. It appears that you realize that, Young Fella. Good for you.
