FO:Royal Swan Stole

This is my version of 'Leda's Dream' stole (which was the yahoo groups Mystery Stole #1) - I started it as a Christmas gift for a co-worker/friend with whom I do a Dicken's Festival during November and December - but got sidetracked. Since she also is Queen Elizabeth at my summer job I picked it up again (having stopped it Dec 22nd) on July 8th and have finished it.

Rather then knit it in one direction and then just add the edge to the provisional cast-on I knit the pattern in both directions from the cast-on. Since I used a larger needle then most who knit this shawl I got away with only 3 repeats of the main chart rather then the 5 most people knit. It was done in Alpaca Farms 'Suri Elegance' - the colour is 'Purple Majesty' (appropriate, no?) and I used US #6 needles.

You can see in the picture I certainly got enough length.

Questions -- When is the Dickens fair this year? Their website doesn't work.

Also what faire do you work at? My home faire is SCRF in CT.

I think that's just gorgeous!

Is that a project an advanced-beginner like myself could attempt?

I would say so - the pattern

I would say so - the pattern is quite easy to "read" on the needles. My problem was keeping straight which row I was on. finally just used a procedure that let me see ONLY the row of the graph I was working on.

I posted another detail shot - showing the center and how the swan wings work out in opposing directions.

Beautiful piece of work;

Beautiful piece of work; very impressive!

Where is your summer job that there is a Queen Elizabeth?  There is an outdoor drama here, The Lost Colony, that has a Queen Elizabeth character, too.

my home away from home

I've run gaming booths there for the past 15 seasons - volunteered as one of the counter-weights on the dunking stool the year before getting hired, and was a 'playtron' for a few years prior to that.

The winter job (street theatre in December in NY state - talk about insane!!!) I've been doing 12 or so years - as the 'Town Crier' of the Village of Skaeneatles --1842

*grin* approx 20,000 stitches - using a bit under 880 yards of the Suri Elegance (but who is counting). Amazing what you can do one stitch at a time.
