I had the fortune to meet Russell Crowe when my roommate's band was playing at the Shamrock Fest in DC a couple of years ago. I was backstage -- and so was he.

Real...and no makeup

...flannel shirt
...baggy jeans
...long hair
...scruffy
...that ever-so [omg] half-grin that he wears
...and yes, I shared a beer with him in the dark
...guitar slung to his side
...piercing eyes
...and just before going onstage he gives that simple silent nod and...

Needless to say, I didn't get much of an opportunity to talk about knitting or that famous picture of him with the needles.

They got through a couple of songs and "our" band had to pack up and go -- after playing at the biggest Irish gathering all year in DC, they had another show to play that night further upstate in MD.

Talk about two ships passing in the night.
