I made another square shawl for a niece. Although I have made lots of these, I find them interesting and relaxing. This one is made with Jamieson and Smith Shetland wool (colourway - Periwinkle) on 4.5mm needles. It measures 68 inches x 68 inches. I finished it with a sideways garter stitch border that I found in my "knitting book" and have no idea where I found it.
I knit another pair of zauberball socks (2.25mm needles) and had enough left over to make a spring toque on 3 mm needles. I used my mother's recipe for decreasing which is done in about 5 or 6 rows and was able to use up all the yarn. I am going to Canada for a visit and will use this for the cool evenings in the spring.
I have heard much about Signature Needles and would like to ask you guys your opinions. I am interested in a set of 5 sock needles and realize I have a choice of length and also of the type of point. Have you used them? Do you know anyone who has?
OR - what kind of needles do you use. I have tried 3 different kinds of wooden needles and do not like them.
A friend gave me three balls of Zauberball Crazy from Germany. This colour is Summer Meadow. It is lovely to knit with and I am pleased with the finished product. It is a single ply yarn and I used 2.25 mm needles.
I knit a sweater for my neighbour in Mexico from Paton's Bulky on 6mm needles. It is charcoal with a yellow and orange fleck in it. I used the pattern I developed but this time I knit back and forth as I didn't know how the yarn which is 75% acrylic would steek. I knit the sleeves in the round.
I have almost finished a sweater for my neighbourboy in Mexico (it still needs buttons) and with the left over Paton's Shetland Chunky I made a hat for Miguel. I used it double on size 8mm needle. It is a Canadian touque of 2x2 ribbing and is really thick. The second I made from a pattern in "Hats On" by Charlene Schurch. She calls it Norwegian Star. It was fun to do and quick.
While in Mexico, I made a shawl for my niece and just now blocked it when I returned to Canada. I used Marianne Kinzel's pattern - "English Crystal", 350 gm of Shetland wool from Jamieson and Smith in Scotland, and 4.5 mm needles. I knitted on a sideways border of 8 stitches (knit 4, yo, k2tog - every row). I blocked it out on a king size bed to about 66 inches square and scalloped the edges.
I have always tried to knit a pair of socks every month besides my other knitting. However, they have become my favourite thing to do lately.
I knit this for my nephew, Chris, when I was in Mexico, but washed and blocked it here in Canada before giving it to him. I used Shetland wool from Jamieson and Smith in Lerwick and 3.25mm needles.
I try to do a pair of socks every month and I actually made these three pairs in one month. They are for my two nieces and my nephew. I used my favourite sock yarn - Kroy, and 2.25mm needles.
