Baby Einstein Coat from the Knit Experience

This is the tiny version of the Einstein coat. I did the pattern for a 6mos old baby. (my co-worker had a boy.. figured it was a good excuse to knit.. as if I needed one).

Faux Spanish Lace Pattern

I'm hardly MMario, and lace isn't necessarily my thing, but here's a little sample swatch (about 4 repeats of the pattern) Done in worsted weight yarn with a US13 needle.

What's on the sticks

1. Started Einstein Coat. Size 10US. using Plymouth's Baby Alpaca Grande. Feels soooo soft!
2. Shawl on size 13 needles using KFI Paillette Yarn Purple with multicolored sequins.

Yarn Heaven, Arlington, TX

I found a very nice place of worship today. Yarn Heaven in Arlington, TX. The staff was friendly and helpful and the selection was HUGE. Size does matter! They have many different brands and fibers. I ended up with South West Trading Company's "Melody" and a skein of their Bamboo, and a set of rosewood DPNs. I found the prices comparable to other LYSs I've visited. They do have a great big 'bargain bin' to peruse. It may not be the prettiest storefront, but it's what that's inside that matters. If you're ever in the Dallas Metro area, I suggest you take a peek. I wish I would've had more time to shop... but I was supposed to be working.

Cute YouTube vid

Saw a cute You Tube video while filtering the net for patterns, yarns and LYSs. (anyone have any suggestions for LYSs in La Jolla, CA? I'll be there for the next couple weeks.)

Evil Knitting Knazis

Just wanted to drop an FYI to those who fly with sticks. Although it is acceptable to fly into Australia with knitting needles, you will want to pack them into your checked luggage when you fly out. At least on Quantas. Knitting Needles are 'perceived weapons' Options were AddiTurbo decapitation or my small defenseless knitting bag thown into the hold with the rest of the baggage. Luckily my needles (and projects on them) arrived into LAX unscathed and unharmed. 14 consecutive hours without knitting!! UGH!!!

Regards,

Kerry

PS. This is by no means anything against our Australian brothers, I love going down under!

Multidirectional Diamond

I hate to count! So, having finished this scarf where there's plenty of counting to do on the middle diamonds have given me a great sense of accomplishment. This is not a scarf to do when you can be easily distracted. The pattern is:
Diamond Modular Scarf
PATTERN P50
Designed by: Iris Schreier

from Artyarns.com

This one is knit using Plymouth yarns 'Boku' on size 11US needles.

It's a pair!!!

Well, I stuck with it and actually caston, knitted and finished the second sock. I did switch to addi turbos rather than trying to knit the second one on addi naturals. Turning the heel is about the time the sigh of relief came. The next pair I've started is going from the toe up. I haven't quite gotten the hang of the two socks on two circs yet. So, I started them one at a time.. I think I will transfer them to a Magic Loop, once I get past the heel. I'll call this the 'Multi-method'

Cheers! (I have to say that, I'm in Australia this week)

1st Entrelac

here's the 1st Entrelac i did. It was a learning piece. I issued a lot of explatives! I did find that the intersections layed a bit better if I didn't just pick up half of the stitch. Also, Foliage (forget who it's by... it's in my yarn album at home) was not fun for this project... looks cool, not much fun knitting though. Next time I'll use a more uniform gauged yarn.
