I'm not sure if this is appropriate, but I'm gonna ask anyhow...

OK. I did it. Bought enough pure alpaca yarn for a scarf. Feels like fiber butter, deep black. I'm gonna need a security guard with me when I wear it, though....

This is what I decided on for my scarf recipient. Hard choice! I haven't decided on a pattern yet, but I think it needs to be really simple to show off the subtle colors of the yarn. Hmm...
