Mock Cable Rib Stitch Infinity Scarf

My mom turns 88 today, so I made a scarf for her birthday. Nothing real fancy or complicated, but a nice accessory with some amazing texture. She taught me how to knit when I was about 10, and it's been a life skill that has brought much joy into my life.

Open All Hours - Granville's Vest Pattern Search

I have a request to knit a copy of the fair isle vest worn by Granville in the BBC sit-com "Open All Hours". Apparently, the vest has some noteriety, something like Jayne's hat in the show "Firefly". I have seen it in Google images; it wouldn't be difficult but I can't really see the patterning. I am presenting this here in hope that someone may have a lead for this pattern.

Using Knitting as Fabric.

Many years ago I made this waistcoat by first knitting a tube of fair isle and then cutting it into two pieces to form the mirror image fronts. These were backed with fabric, with cording in the seams. I used a suit vest as my template to cut and sew the pieces. The yarn is Jamieson & Smith shetland which lends itself well to this fabric approach.

Waffle Stitch Prayer Shawl

I had not tried the waffle stitch, so I thought I would give it a shot on a prayer shawl. I used bulky yarn and was quite pleased with the texture and drape of the fabric. I know there are other charity knitters on here so I thought I'd post some pics and the link to a free pattern.

HELP! I can't make the gauge!

Without going into the long explanation, the knitting wools I just received for my new project are not what the pattern calls for. Jamieson Spindrift was sent instead of Jamieson DK. The difference is that the DK is a 3 ply and the Sprindrift is a 2 ply which knits up as a 4 ply. But, this won't effect the garment ( or so I hope) as it's all the same Shetland wool.

Sock Trouble - Scratching My Head

I am trying my best to find a pattern for a plain sock using 4-ply Knit Picks Stroll Tweed. I really like the way the stitches look when I use circular needles US 1, 2.5mm. For the life of me, and I have been trying all summer, I can't find a pattern that fits me. I'm getting 10 stitches/in in plain stockinette, with 13 rows/in.

Fair Isle Yoke Pullover

This pullover was knit in the traditional method of knitting the body in the round, re-inforcing the armholes, and then cutting them in. The sleeves were also knit circularly and then sewn to the cut armholes. The yarn is four colors of Knit Picks "Palette" fingering weight 100% wool knit on US#4 needles. I am posting this to show Jesse and others my technique for easy re-inforcing and cutting.

What I'm working on at the moment

Its been quite a while since I posted, so I thought I'd finally write again. Last time I wrote I was struggling to figure out what I call 'open work' but I guess it is technically lace. I figured it out - thanks to some nice help from the guys here - and went to make a pair of armlets/sleeves that I wanted to complete a costume. I'll post pics later if anyone cares to see them.
