Question...and perhaps a dumb one

Ok, so yesterday I was somewhere on the web and found a link to a site called Women Who Knit.  I didn't save the link.  I've looked on this site, and links, and have done a yahoo search.  Was I seeing things?  Does anyone know about or have a link to this site?

thanks much

Kids and Knitting

Today my kids went to a writing club.  One of the mothers in the neighborhood who also home schools thought it would be cool to get other home schoolers together and share their writing, and do a project together.

The kids gdt quite excited after they got there.  They wrote and drew pictures and nobody lost hair or threw themselves to the floor!

Of course my knitting went with. One of the other moms expressed an interest in learning. We talked about the Waldorf Schools.   They actually have a knitting curriculum.  Supposedly it helps kids with meth.  It never helped me, but that's another story!  Anyway, this discussion culminated in me volunteering to do arts and crafts with the kids in my back yard this summer.  Part of the program will be learning to knit. Guys and girls. I am starting the group in June.  We'll post pictures...ummm how does one do that here?

First Post...so here I am

So here I am.  I started reading this blog about 6 months ago when I added it to my knitting page on My Yahoo.  I have a daughter 9 who knits, and a son who is 7 that has just learned.  Imagine the surprised faces at my daughter's Tae Kwon Do calss when he sat on the side lines and whipped that out!

I wish it wasn't that way.  i am sure you guys have experienced similar looks.  Gawd.  I use knitting in my meditation practice.  The repetitive stitches and rythmn of the needles helps to clear my head. Currently I am working on a Shepherd Jacket from Peace Fleece.  For those of you who have never checked out their website, please do at hyyp://peaclefleece.com   I am  also working on a basketweave shawl. I  haven't gotten into anything too heavy yet.  My grandmother taught me years ago.  I have stopped and started, stopped and havenow been knitting for about 5 years.  I  consider myself still a novice b/c I really haven't ventured into anything real difficult yet.  Getting there.  Nice to be here.

Basket weave

Here's my latest creation, another dishcloth.  I really like this pattern, and it's so easy: knit 5, purl 5!  I think I shall try the next one with smaller squares (knit 3, purl 3) and see what develops... keep your needles crossed for me.

The Urban Aran Cardigan

Hey guys!  There are great things happening out there, thanks for always keeping the site busy with new projects and inspiring topics.

Urban Aran Cardigan

I wanted to post a pic of my most recent sweater: its a heavily modified version of the Urban Aran Pullover from Paton's Street Smart.  The original pattern is written for women, but I reworked it into cardigan version that is more male-friendly.

it's darn hot!

i don't know if'n it is the heat and humidity but i'm on a hat rampage.  just a basic hat pattern i think from Sally Melville.....unfortunately, my co-workers steal 'em when they are finished.  *sigh*  i like this pattern because it is soooooo basic but forgiving so i can try some really stupid things but i now know a lot more things NOT to do, eh?  anyways,  y'all be good and stuff.  i'm tempted to offer some thoughts on knitting as a lay service at church.......something 'bout how it's good for the soul since in one small part of the universe one gets to impose a little order.  also, knitting in the round has to be a great metaphor for life don' it?  just round and round sometimes not remembering exactly where you are or why?

My first creation.

As promised guys. A pic of my first sweater. Its not all that I know, but Im chuffed with it. Learned a lot by making it and know how to do things differently next time. Haven't blocked it yet but will get around to it.

Steve liked it. I think he was just being kind though. Smile

Am working on another similar although this one is ribbed and in a different colour. Will post as soon as its finished.

A big thanks to all you guys who made me feel so welcome.

Collar Crazy

These are a selection of some of the collars I've done and donated to Italian Greyhound Rescue to sell. They made their debut at the Italian Greyhound Rescue table, part of the All About Pets Fair at the Empire State Plaza this weekend.  I had to work fast at that table to keep up with replacing collars that sold! I know there are so many people that hate the fun-fur and eyelash yarns for human wear, but it makes for some mighty attractive pooch accessories.  Since so much of what I used for these was either given to me or was on sale for ridiculously low prices, it kept the costs down.  I have to do up more for our monthly adoption awareness table at one of the local pet supply stores.

Just sitting here looking on tinternet wondering if im the only one who loves to knit and hey presto I stumble on this fantastic website where I can meet and chat to other members of the male knitting club! fantastic!

Am just taking a little break between sipping wine and starting another sweater while harry potter is getting almost burned by a big horney dragon. (lucky Harry!)

As you may have gathered I am new to this website and really very glad I stumbled across it. I have looked at some of the pix of the things you guys have made and have to say that I am really impressed! I myself have just finished making my first sweater, a gift for my partner that he hasn't seen yet. Im sure that he'll love it. As I said im just starting another sweater and really loving knitting it. Its one of the ones where you sit and knit for an hour or so and before you know it you have knitted almost the first side. The wool I'm using is denim ultra by Sirdar and its fantastic! Knits up really quickley. Will post pictures soon if anyone is interested.

My first entry

This is where I will keep the details of my knitting projects and photos as well.

A little background for all who will read this, I started knitting about 2 months ago, after I lost my job.  I wanted to learn something that would keep me busy and occupy both sides of my brain.  One day, I saw a Learn to Knit kit that teaches how to knit cat toys at Target.  It came with a video and everything you need to make a few cat toys.  I have enjoyed knitting a lot so far, and I'm glad to have found a community of other men who are into it as well.

So far, I can only knit and purl in the English-style.  I can do simple increases & decreases, although I'm having trouble making the "invisible" increase (mine are plainly visible).  I have made all 3 of the cat toys the kit taught me (the fish, the mouse & the ball) and I started knitting dishrags.
