Gifts for baby shower

Just wanted to share a quick project I completed for a baby shower. I'm sure the mommy to be will love these. I used this great blue sky alpaca/silk yarn and some silky merino. I know it's not a yarn usually used for babies but it was so soft and lovely I just had to use it.

Ashton Shawl

Here's something I've been working on. I have been spinning a lot lately, having received from a friend one fleece that she didn't want, and part of another from a local spinner. I've been having a lot of fun pulling out locks and spinning a very fine worsted yarn. Not sure yet what I will do with it, but there is still time!

manly art of knitting, reprint

just saw that dave fougner's 'the manly art of knitting' is being reprinted by adbusters, after being out of print for decades. originally released in 1975 it's a hit-or-miss for actual technique and usable patterns, but total hit for the kitsch factor...

what do you knit when you don't...

what do you knit when you don't wear many winter clothes, and neither do most of your family/friends... and you don't have many kids in your life, so knitting toys seems like a waste... and you're a self-admitted sour sally when it comes to mug cozies, jewelry, animal clothing, things without actual purpose, and anything too femme or religiousy.

FINALLY!

I just finished a very easy two-row pattern prayer shawl. It has taken MONTHS to finish due to a busy work schedule and numerous involuntary froggings. My toddler grand-daughter's feet got caught in the yarn, and as she merrily ran around the living room, I watched about a foot of fabric disappear. That happened twice. I'll be happy to move this one on to church.

So what have I been up to?

Not that much, knitting-wise. I've been working on a few projects that have stretched out for a few months. I recently saw the "Hibernation" category on Ravelry projects page and thought it appropriate.

Finally Retired & Now Writing About Knitting

Well, I made it. As of June 1, I am officially retired from teaching. Thirty-nine long years. My students made me wonderful gifts and the teachers and administrators festooned me with praise...and even some gift cards. I will be using two of the cards to help pay for my hotel bills to and from the Denver retreat. That was a big help.

Jacob's Ladder Seaman's Scarf

My brother wanted a light scarf that was akin to USA red...that's my term for the color. So, I got the color pallet for the Olympic clothing and finally found some yarn that matched pretty well. I always enjoy doing cables, so this scarf was a fun way to practice that skill even more. I used yarn I had never seen before by Caron.

Lobsters in the Cathedral -Update 5/26 Back Done

Good Evening All,

Back is off the needles. Thought I'd also have 1/2 of the front done but had a surprise visit from my daughter-in-law and 20 month old Grandson. They came up and spent the weekend while my son was away on business. HAd a great time but did not get much knitting done.
