recruiting

I am visiting my friend Jim in Walpole, NH, and it is snowy weather. His knee is hurting him (acl surgery scheduled for a fortnight from now) so we can't go for hikes in the woods...So, of course, I taught him how to knit, and he's taken to it like a pro: Got the basics in less than an hour, and thus far today he has knit 3 inches on a simple garter scarf (brown sheep worsted: 34 st on size 9's....could have done size 10's...my fault, scarf could have more drape) but it's all good and he's buzzing right along for such a curmudgeonly old woodchuck...

I whipped out a hat in Adirondec (sp?) organic cotton (not terrible to knit with for a cotton,) but as I was making it up as I went along, it is a little on the largish side. I will probably pull the whole thing out and start again: It took about 2 hours to do. No big deal... All is good: I return to Portland on Monday.... I miss my kids (horses) and the gardens, but it is nice to visit with my friend.

Cheers,
Bob

Knitting/Fiber mags?

Hello Knitting Gentlemen,

I'm wondering which knitting or fiber magazines folks like and subscribe to? I finally got around to resubscribing to Interweave's Spin Off (after, oh, a good 10 year hiatus) mostly for the ads and resources.

What are your favorites?

FO:KYOAMPI

From another knitting group - in January of '06 (or so I recall;t may have been February) - I joined a "Knit your own adventure mystery pi shawl" (KYOAMPI) -- and *finally* got it blocked out this week and photographed.

attached are before and after shots of the shawl once off the needle.

there was a "garden" them on this shawl - you could pick various lace and mix and match -- I have a "flower lace" ; lace daffodils, bumblebee lace and leaf lace.

cottage wool

i am looking for home grown wool --- I recieved some as a gift this week and really liked the feel of the natural wool and was wondering if anyone could recommend a website that has home grown and spun wool --- Ifigure I can support the little people in this world too instead of the big corporate america.

Also, aas a side note if any of you men own a wool farm and need help this summer let me know (it would be great experience since I am going to school to get my veterinary technichian certification)
