It's coming on Christmas

It's coming on Christmas. They're cutting down trees. They're putting up reindeer and singing songs of joy and peace. I wish I had a river I could skate away on.

Kind of perfectly captures the melancholy I face this time of year. I've spent the last two days installing a winter garden in the drizzle. I will be knitting like a madman all tonight and tomorrow to finish the afghan and have time to block it for deliver 12/26, upon which I will HAPPILY bid it goodbye forever...

To all those in exchange program. Expect your package by New Years with my mea culpa.

Cheers to all,
Bob

Checking in From East Texas

Hey folks,

As I sit here in the smack dab in the middle of 600+ acres of pastoral East Texas I want to wish you all the happiest holiday possible.

Jeff and I are house-sitting for his mother and doing the Christmas thing with the rest of his family, and they're a damn lot of them on the side. I swear this ranch house is so long there is a rest stop between the kitchen and the master bedroom!

I'll blog the weekend with pictures, y'all won't believe it. It's wonderful.

May that big Lone Star shine on you from afar.

Merry Chistmas from Texas y'all!

Chris

Greetings and wishes to all for a grand Holiday Season

Gosh!! It has been far too long since I'd last posted here. Thank you all for your greetings and welcoming to the site. It's been wonderful viewing all the knitted items that everyone has been working on, and all the tremendous information that has been shared.

These past few months have been rather hectic, with too much knitting and crocheting of Holiday gifts to be completed, along with the onset of the Winter products arriving in the store and all the hustle and bustle of getting it to the salesfloor; not to mention the assisting of customers in making their choices.

To date I've completed six pairs of socks, four hats and accompanying scarves and mittens, a sweater, and a few comforters, and successfully had them mailed in time to arrive at thier destinations before the Holidays.

Hope everyone has a very joyous Holiday.

Anniversary

I just inadvertantly noticed that it was one year ago today that I joined MWK as member #296. Now, we're up to 688 members with thousands upon thousands of postings. I especially have enjoyed the comraderie of this community and have learned lots of new ideas and techniques to improve my knitting. In particular, I've been frequently awed by the fantastic knitted projects which have been displayed here. Being probably the only male knitter in Middle Earth (I can't seem to discover any others), I'm grateful for the new knitting friends I've made on this site. It really does make a difference to share our craft with other men.

Great holiday wishes for everyone, especially those in the northern hemisphere! Somehow, celebrating the summer solstice isn't quite the same thing...

Yet another FO

I'm giving you one link and one attachment this time.

This is a shawl I test knit for someone - and is NOT blocked - merely washed and laid out to dry. Even so it opened up a lot. Here is is, modeled by our resident bear, Blackie.

and the attached photo is laid on the couch.

Those Meaningful Stitches

Mircea Eliade wrote a book titled 'The Sacred And The Profane.' In this book you'll find some interesting ideas about how one person can identify an object as being sacred and another person can look upon the same object and see nothing more than what it is literally. He uses a rock as an example of this. One person could see a magical stone that was placed where it is by something divine (a hierophany), and another person will see the rock as a big hunk of sediment sitting inert.

I see my emotions, happy, sad and otherwise, when I look at an object I have knit. Yet, the person who gets that piece will likely never see those emotions. They are there, but only for me to see. I believe this is why it's difficult to be around someone when they receive something I have spent a long time working on.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas....

since I'll be taking off for 1842 shortly - and doubt I'll be around much before tuesday....

Drat! the mp3 file can't be attached. Oh well.

Never mind. I was gonna sing you all a Christmas carol - but the forum won't let me.

So - instead - I give you Toast for the New Year

Enjoy!

Such a Rookie

Man, when I see all of the things you guys can do, I feel like such a rookie. I've been at it for like 1-2 years now. I'm still working on perfectin socks and booties. I did whip up an ipod kewzie (?spelling) from Men with Balls book last night for one of my son's friends. He though it was cool, but geez, the way you guys can just whip out a sweater, a vest, intricate socks, just blows me away. The only bad thing about the internet is that you guys are all so far away. I wish we could have a convention sometime where 50-100 of us could all meet. I have really gotten encouragement, love, and some common bonds shared with many of you. I love and thank you all for it. I wish everyone the Merriest of Christmases. I hope everyone gets what they want! I wish all of you a happy new year and I hope to continue with our discussions and blogs for years to come. God Bless you all.
xoxo

3 Legged santa

Just finished and delivered the third of the Christmas stockings... just made the deadline. I was getting ready to deliver the last one and realized that I had duplicate stitched "Jenie" instead of "Jennie" across the top of the sock. WHAT a nightmare. Anyway...3 1945 Vintage stockings done for a very appreciative family. Those who asked for the pattern, please send me a message to my inbox with your address. I did make some copies.

What I'm Up To Lately

Hey guys!! How are you all? I haven't posted anything here in a long time. Guess I've been really busy. I hope everyone is having a happy holiday season and looking forward to a wonderful christmas this year.

I've been really busy knitting up a bunch of skinny scarfs, caps and bags and my latest venture is trying to start up a men's knitting group in my hometown. I've posted an ad about it on craigslist, but I'm not sure if anyone around where I live will take interest. We'll see.

My latest project happens to be a crocheted project. I am trying to make myself a knitting bag since I can't seem to find anything around town or online that I like. It seems like all of the knitting bags that are available are made for women (boo!). So I've dug out my camouflage yarn and am attempting to make something that a guy like me won't be embarrassed to tote around.

Anyway that's what I'm up do for now. I'll check back in later... oh by the way guys I love to read all of your posts on here... especially when I'm out and about I can surf to this site on my cellphone and read up on what you guys are doing. I love it. Keep writing and knitting and showing what your making. It
