Does anyone have a favorite sock pattern with the following considerations: heavier than sock weight yarn and lightly shaped...not full square heel treatment. I'm looking for a totally brainless and stretchy sock that I can knit on where-ever and whenever I have a free moment. (or when walking).
ok. working up a simple cabled scarf....42 stitches across with an 8 row simple pattern repeat....shouldn't need to use lifelines.....WRONG! i had to throw the WIP down and take off for a code and when i get back (the patient didn't make it) somehow i drop a stitch and unconsciously yarn over or something to replace the stitch. i complete 2 more 8 row sets when i notice a ladder falling thru the purls b/n the cable and a rib. *sigh* i learned the hard way that you can't fish for and pull a dropped stitch through cables very well. only had to rip out 20 rows. must always use a lifeline.
OK, I have this ghastly yarn (actually, it's not so bad...just a little um, bright...turquoise, yellow, and leaf green varigated). I will never use this in a project, but wait...SOCKS! I don't know if it is machine washable, and frankly I don't care as I've already started knitting with it. I can of course, wrap a blob of yarn and try to felt it...then I'll know. But as I don't mind handwashing a pair of special occasion socks, it's kind of a moot point: I wouldn't use this for anything else. Question is, has anyone ever knit socks in non-machine washable? Does the heat and sweat felt them badly? Of course, in the olden days, they didn't have machine washable, and they wore socks...so does it make any difference at all? ramble ramble ramble.... This is what I do when I am on a diet and knit instead of eat....
So this sock has been in the works for well over a month now on #2's because I just can't seem to finish it. In fact I have started a new pair of socks to protest the fact that I can't seem to work up the energy to finish this one. What's worse it is only the first one! The colors are lovely though and I find the yarn doesn't slip off my Brittany's easily.
So after my partner and I moved to the land of Germans that is Saint Cloud Minnesotta I thought I ought to start a men's knitting group. I had been going to Men Knit DC while we lived there ( www.menknit.net ) and thought it would be a good thing to do. So tuesday is our second meeting and we expect maybe seven people but it is really hard to get straight men. Not that I mind gay men mind you but I really didn't intend for this to be a gay knitting group just a men's knitting group. Oh well I am sure the straight guys will appear eventually.
We went to Palm Springs yesterday to go to my partner's niece's suprise birthday party - of course, we were about 10 minutes early and we're very lucky - the parking space we ended up in was right behind a yarn store (The Yarn Co.) - in palm desert I believe. I had no idea that it was there (neither of us did) until we pulled up - I am sure everyone knows how anxious I was to get through lunch to go back to see what they had to offer! it's a compact store with floor to ceiling yarn offered - nice ladies that look at me funny when I look through the store - (am I the only one who feels like guys are treated differently in yarn shops?) - I ended up buying some incredibly cool hand dyed yarn and intend on (someday) making something with it - maybe a baby sweater - who knows..
THEN we went to another store (Harriet's) later that afternoon - apparantly, the niece has been knitting too (horray!) and they take her to this tiny shop - it's really in an accessories store which is kind of strange - but it is beautifully organized all the yarn is by color and it's bright - nice and open! :) - I bought some other random yarns there and got the same kind of treatment at this shop - this time I was with a girl also, and while I'm piling yarn in my arms, the storekeeper approached my lady friend and asked her how long she had been knitting! I found it pretty funny - and as I was explaining that I did the knitting and was searching for random yarn for my collections (I buy then put the yarns together when I find a project that I want to do) she didn't seem to believe me - it was a very strange experience!
It has been soooooo long since I have posted anything. Sorry for the absence! Life has just been crazy and between work and an anniversary vacation to Santa Fe and Taos....there has been little time for hopping on here and saying hi!
Welcome to all the newbies!
And the not-so-newbies will probably remember I was working on that "killer" (not all in a good way) sweater for Allan. The irregular rib raglan.....ugh! IT IS FINISHED!!!!!! YEAH!!!! It soooo should not have been my first sweater. I will get some photos of it and post them soon...I have started a new cardigan/vest for my mother for Christmas and it is so easy! My first time with intarsia and I think I love it.
Anyhoo, just wanted to let you all know I'm still here...I'm sure you have been chomping at your nails with worry....LOL
Until later, hugs, gabriel
Ok this is actually the blanket. My poor neice kira is festooned with pink so I decided she needed a few other colors around her befre she is brainwashed into liking Barbie. It is on 8's and about 200 stitches across. I am using a great yarn from Kim that is 100 percent cotton and crocheted as opposed to spun. I love the contrasting colors. Can we post more than one image per post? I feel somewhat bad about multiple postings in a day but always have half a dozen things on my needles.
Saturday, my partner,Clive, and I walked down to the harbour's edge on a beautiful sunny 27C spring day. We bought coffees and sat in the park and watched yachts and ferries on the harbour. In the distance you can see the Sydney Opera House and the Bridge.
does anyone use addi circular needle? I have just started as I've heard so many great things. I an knitting a tea cozy and I quite like using dpn but for this project I thought I'd experiment. I have only done a few rounds but already my thumb is very sore.
Is this just because I am new to addi or are my suspicians correct about the needle being too small.
any help would be appreciated.
