"Hollywood" Finally Finished

Well, a couple of weeks ago, I finally finished the "Hooray for Hollywood" piece that I posted images of a while back when it was still a work in progress.

The finished piece is about 6' by 5' and I've got it hanging on the wall right now. Each "portrait" is approximately 12" square.

Starting from the top left corner: Cary Grant, Bette Davis, Spencer Tracy, Jean Harlow, Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Joan Crawford, Harpo Marx, Greta Garbo, Robert Mitchum, Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Gloria Swanson, and Clark Gable.

It took a bit longer than I expected (taking a few breaks throughout), but I started it back in June, so it was about 5 months in the making overall.

As I was working on it, I kind of made a game out of it as well. With a little effort, you can actually do a "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" thing linking everyone together. Mine starts with Gloria Swanson and ends with Cary Grant. I'm sure there are other configurations.

Anyway, here it is.

Wow!! I especially like the Harpo portrait...my favorite Marx brother.

Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

You know, it really is magnificent. The arrangement, the colors, the drawing, everything. And on top of it all, it’s knitted. Utterly superb. And I realize that you had only so much room and the actors you did choose all do belong there. But perhaps someday you could do another big one with just Judy Garland and Elizabeth Taylor. Maybe full-body drawings...

In keeping with the Hollywood theme, I'm feeling a bit like Ruth Gordon, who said when she won her Oscar for "Rosemary's Baby" at age 72: "I can't tell you how encouraging a thing like this is..."

Thank you all for all your responses. High praise indeed from fellow knitters. I'm slightly overwhelmed.

As an aside, I did several other charts in the process of designing this, including Elizabeth Taylor (in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" mode), and Judy Garland in "A Star is Born", but, sadly, they didn't make the cut...this time. Who knows, though. Perhaps a later project. I've actually been playing around with the idea of another major piece of movie and music icons of the '60s and '70s. We'll see what the new year brings.

If I don't get back on here in the near future, happy holidays, everyone. Peace, joy, health, happiness and all things good to all of you.
