Difficult Time

I have not been knitting much lately. My mom, who has suffered from emphysema for several years, is reaching the end of her life. She has had in-home hospice care for about 3 months and, for the last 2 weeks, has been in a hospice facility. Along with the emphysema, she has been experiencing panic attacks. I have been with my folks since the beginning of July, and I have not had the time or desire to pick up needles. I do feel fortunate; my two brothers and I have made a great team caring for both parents. Each of us has a different strength, and we complement each other well. Even though, it has been a rough road.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I lost my mother in 2003 and not a day goes by that I don't think of her. We used to knit together and have coffee..so many good times.

I'm sorry to hear that you and your family are going through such a difficult time, Alan. But I am glad to hear that you and your brothers are taking good care of each other as well as your mother. Too often, difficult situations end up pulling a family apart. You have my sympathy and whatever comfort I can offer.

May I also send along my sympathies to you during this time. This is something many of us had to deal with, or will have to deal with. Not an easy process at all. Just go through each day one at a time.

I also want to say that knitting and spinning has been my solace during many crises, following the advice given by the great EZ.

Best wishes in your time of need. Right now I'm knitting a prayer shawl for my mom, so she knows I appreciate here while she's still around.

Alan, I truly feel for you, as I went through a very similar situation with my mother last year, and we lost her in December. You're blessed with a good and supportive family, which helps so much. In time, when you've had some healing, the knitting will be still there, waiting patiently for you. God bless.
